Over the past five years, EDUN has participated in a social initiative called CCIU (Conservation Cotton Initiative Uganda) in aiding thousands of displaced farmers. EDUN established CCIU in 2009 in collaboration with Invisible Children, a non-profit organization that develops social programs principally in Northwest Uganda. CCIU provides funding, training and enterprise support to cotton farmers to help build sustainable businesses in Northern Uganda.

The initiative was formed out of a need to help farmers who were displaced from their homes and farms due to civil war. When it began, CCIU was helping 800 displaced farmers, but today in partnership with TechnoServe, it supports 8,535 farmers in Northern Uganda.
